HOME CHURCH GUIDE

In this season where our Church is unable to gather as a whole family for worship, we’re seeking to equip our Restoration family for God’s work among them – right where they are. That’s what Home Church is all about: giving you tools to gather with community groups or other believers (*safely* in person or online) for a shared experience of worship with the whole Restoration family. Below, you’ll find three movements of worship together: Worship (praise and prayer), Word (opening the Scriptures), and Witness (talking it out and living it out. So whether with a community group or a friend or two, let’s worship together! (Kids Resources Here!)

WORSHIP: PRAISE AND PRAYER

Worship is the continual process of orienting our hearts around that which we value most. Each Sunday, we worship in song and prayer to offer our hearts and allegience to Jesus, who alone is worthy of our praise. In your Home Churches, we encourage worship through the use of the video below or by worship in person. If you cannot participate through song in your group, spend time answering this question:

What do I have to praise God for this week?

Prayer for the week:

God, hold us gently as we grow in faith — interconnected and held by the same loving hands.

As you hold us, may we gain the strength to hold one another. Bless us with the vulnerability and humility to share our burdens. As we feel the weight lift from our shoulders, grant us the refreshing stamina to receive the burdens of others with compassion.

We are not alone. We proclaim this truth boldly. Your Spirit surrounds us — even closer is your love than the weight that we carry. Ease our burdens as we bring them to you, and as we bring them to one another in good faith that you will hold us through it all. Amen.

WORD: OPENING THE SCRIPTURES

WITNESS: TALK AND LIVE IT OUT

This Week’s Scripture: Colossians 3:12-15

Whether among your community group or a few friends over Zoom, we want to challenge you to move beyond just knowledge and information and into practicing the way of Jesus in your everyday life! But we do this together. Below you’ll find some questions to discuss, as well as next steps for living it out!

  1. In Colossians 3:12, Paul gives a list of qualities that we should “clothe ourselves with” in pursuit of loving one another: compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Which of these expressions of love do you need more of right now?
  2. The phrase “bear with” (Greek: allélón) means to stand under and bear a heavy weight. Talk about a time a fellow believer helped hold you up duing a heavy season.
  3. In John 13, Jesus says it’s our love for one another that would mark us as His disciples in the world. How might your Home Church or community love in a way that is noticable to the world around you?

Practice: Share Your Burden.  Galatians 6:2 says Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. But unless we’re vulnerable enough to make our burdens known, our brothers and sisters in Christ won’t know how to share the burdens we carry. This week, have the courage to share the burden(s) you’re carrying with your Home Church. Is it a financial need? Anxiety? Depression? As your group shares your burdens, be intention this week to come along side these needs through prayer, encouragement, and the meeting of practical needs.

Reminder: If you’re in a Home Church, talk through your plan. (HomeGroupPlanningGuide)
