HOME CHURCH GUIDE

In this season where our Church is unable to gather as a whole family for worship, we’re seeking to equip our Restoration family for God’s work among them – right where they are. That’s what Home Church is all about: giving you tools to gather with community groups or other believers (*safely* in person or online) for a shared experience of worship with the whole Restoration family. Below, you’ll find three movements of worship together: Worship (praise and prayer), Word (opening the Scriptures), and Witness (talking it out and living it out. So whether with a community group or a friend or two, let’s worship together!

WORSHIP: PRAISE AND PRAYER

Worship is the continual process of orienting our hearts around that which we value most. Each Sunday, we worship in song and prayer to offer our hearts and allegience to Jesus, who alone is worthy of our praise. In your Home Churches, we encourage worship through the use of the video below or by worship in person. If you cannot participate through song in your group, spend time answering this question:

 

What do I have to praise God for this week?

Prayer for the week:

My soul magnifies you, oh God.
My spirit rejoices in your presence.
Your promises precede me wherever I go.
Your faithfulness never ceases.
You are with us.
God of the humble,
Show me the way of meekness.
Illuminate the places I’ve long considered
To be void of your wholeness and love.
Show me your mercy even there,
Especially there.
May I see with my own eyes
Your glory covering the whole earth.
May I watch in awe as you exalt the humble
And fill hearts that were once empty.
Soften my heart daily to witness
The beauty of Emmanuel.
Amen.

WITNESS: TALK AND LIVE IT OUT

This Week’s Scripture: Luke 1:26-56

Whether among your community group or a few friends over Zoom, we want to challenge you to move beyond just knowledge and information and into practicing the way of Jesus in your everyday life! But we do this together. Below you’ll find some questions to discuss, as well as next steps for living it out!

Studying The Scriptures Together

  1. When God chose to enter history through Jesus, he didn’t go to the Temple, to Jerusalem, or to a priest or King – he went to a poor teenager living in obscurity. What do you think this choice reveals about His character and calling in the world? 
  2. God loves to show up in the places – and though the people –  that we least expect him to. Share a time when you’ve encountered God in a surprising, unexpected way through a person or circumstance you’ve experienced. 
  3. James 4:6 tells us that “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” How can we recognize pride in our life? What are some of the ways you’ve struggled with pride?
  4. Mary’s song places a strong emphasis on those who are proud… and those who are humble. What do you think genuine humility before God looks like? How does humility open us up to God in a way that pride inhibits?
