Field Guide For Troubled Times: They’ll Remember Our Love
Reflection Questions
- Jon Tyson says “Pressure reveals priorities.” In the pressure of this crisis, what are some of the foundational values and priorities that have come to the surface of your life?
- Ken Boa says that “Agape love is the steady intention of the will to another’s highest good.” How do you see this kind of love displayed in God’s love for you? How would we love others with the same kind of love?
- 1 John 4:10-11 defines love as Jesus’ atoning sacrifice on the cross – then says we should love the same way. With this in mind, what does cross-shaped love look like for our neighbors?
- We can’t offer the world what we aren’t receiving ourselves. What daily practices of faith and devotion keep your heart rooted in the love of God for you? How would your life be different if you lived with utmost confidence in God’s agape love for you?
Community Practice
Surrender. Part of learning the way of agape love… is learning to surrender. Fear causes us to grasp at the world with closed fists, afraid to lose what is ours. But when perfect love drives out fear, our hands can open in surrender knowing we can trust God with everything we have. With that in mind, as you spend time with God this week, ask him to reveal what you’re holding on to that you need to surrender. Knowing that nothing can separate you from God’s love, release it to him. Ask him to teach you trust in his heart and provision for you.
