Core Practices

A Shared Way of Life

We believe that we are a Church to the degree that we are moving towards Jesus together. This doesn’t happen by accident, and it certainly doesn’t happen alone. In order to move towards Jesus, we share a common set of practices that both shape the people we’re becoming and give us direction as a community. There are nine practices we are pursuing, expressed in three aspects of Jesus’ life: Communion, Community, and Co-Mission.* Below you’ll find a list of these practices, resources for each, and a personal assessment to see where you are in sharing this common life with our community.

Practices of Communion: Abiding In God’s Presence

We believe that God is always present and at work among us. We want to cultivate an awareness of how His Spirit is at work in and around us, experiencing more of His presence and work in our lives. Because of this, we commit to:

Spend daily time abiding in the presence of God
through Scripture and Prayer.

Spend weekly time in Sabbath rest celebrating
and enjoying the abundance of God.

Regularly attend Sunday gatherings for worship, learning
from the Scriptures, and Communion.

Practices of Community: Growing In God’s Family

We believe growth never happens in isolation. Our own restoration is a community project, as we learn to love our neighbors and enemies as ourselves. We see the Church as a family where people come together to share their stories and grow together in the beautiful mess of life. Because of this, we commit to:

Gather regularly in a community group to share a meal,
share my story, and grow in faith.

Regularly connect with 1-2 friends to be vulnerable
through confession, repentance, and encouragement.

Serve the greater community through volunteering my gifts and talents to serve.

Practices of Commission: Joining In God’s Mission

We believe God is already present and at work in the world around us. Our mission is to join him! Just as Jesus taught us to pray for his kingdom “on earth as it is in heaven,” we seek to embody his kingdom through tangible acts of hospitality, justice, and sacrificial love – welcoming others into the same love we are experiencing in Jesus. Because of this, we commit to:

I will practice hospitality through welcoming others
into my home and rhythms of life.

I will share my story of faith with gentleness and respect with
others who are not followers of Jesus.

I will use my resources to help serve and equip the poor and vulnerable
in my community.
