This past Sunday, we started a new series on the book of Galatians called “Simple Gospel.” Galatians is a book all about seeing the message of Jesus clearly in the fog of empty religion. Paul was adamant about the Galatian Church leaving behind the religious distortions and seeing the good news of grace for everybody. Einstein once said that “If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.” It can be easy to take the message of Jesus and overcomplicate it. How would you describe the good news of Jesus in the clearest, simplest way possible?

“Gospel” in Jesus and Paul’s day was an announcement of a victory by a ruler or king that had already taken place. In the same way, the Gospel of Jesus announces not what we must do, but what Jesus has done for us. How does this change your perspective on the message of Jesus?

Paul’s opponents added Jewish laws and regulations to faith in Jesus to be right with God, shifting the focus off of Jesus and on to our performance. What’s the difference between faith in Jesus and faith in our ability to please Jesus?
