This past Sunday, we closed out our Friended series by talking about what holds all of our relationships together – love. But not the kind of love we see in the world. This love is a steadfast, faithful love that sticks around no matter the circumstances. We see this in the story of Ruth’s love for Naomi, and ultimately in Jesus’ love for us. Check out the podcast, Scripture and community questions below to help you take the next step!

Community Questions:

We all find ourselves caught off guard by changing circumstances – both good and bad – that catch us by surprise. Can you think of circumstance in your own life in the last year or two that left you reeling? Who stood by your side?

Compassion literally means to “suffer with.” Naomi  told her daughters-in-law that her life was too bitter to share, and yet Ruth walked – and suffered – with her. What does it tangibly look like to walk with compassion through struggles with friends?

Checed, or steadfast love, is used over and over again in the Scriptures to describe God’s love for us. It is a love that never leaves, no matter the circumstances. How is this different from how the world defines love?

Put In Practice

CS Lewis said “Friendship is born at that moment when one person says to another: “What! You too? I thought I was the only one.” In a lonely world, coming along side someone in their struggle can transform their story. Who in your life needs your presence through a kind word and a listening ear as they walk through a struggle?
